Fly Delta?

In trying to fill the void during Val’s absence, I pondered again on my subject line! Alas, the thought of getting on a flight again does bring back memories I definitely have to share. Anyone who has flown with Delta recently care to share an experience? Well, I certainly can. We flew with Delta airlines on our trip to Belize, which flew through Atlanta as our transit destination. I should say from our initial flight from Toronto, I had nothing but complaints, and believe me I am not much of a complainer!! They announced as we took off that they could not serve us coffee or tea (don’t forget there is no food on these flights either) as there was no hot water. Our flight was delayed, shortening our time to get some food while on transit. Ok, so this isn’t totally unusual right? But wait there’s more. On our flight back there was another story to be told. At the Belize duty free, we decided to purchase some goods, including alcohol, since it was cheaper than in N. America. We boarded our flight and sat in the plane for a while as again the flight was delayed. Then guess what, they announced that they did have tea and coffee…so happily I asked for a cup of tea as the stewardess came by, only to be told that there were only five tea bags and the captain and co-pilot used it all up!!! I was in total disbelief with that statement but chose to sit back and ignore it as we were too tired. The delayed take off again made our transit shorter – a little too short, leaving us very little time to go through security and all that wonderful stuff to the next connecting flight. But wait, there was yet another adventure…as we passed security, the lady says that I will have to claim my baggage and check in the alcohol if I wanted to take it with us. A little surprised I told her it was a duty free purchase and that is why we had to carry it on board and no one on the flight or the crew said anything about having to check it in. Well, after exchanging a few abrupt sentences with her, we had no choice but to leave the alcohol with her!! Lucky her eh? She did say we could wait till the next connecting flight if we really wanted to take what was ours anyways! The service on our flights weren’t any more memorable than the rest of this story either and when we finally landed home, tired and ready to be home we found out that they didn’t have our luggage! So, at 1 am, here we are at the Delta counter at the airport filling out forms and letting them know that we would really appreciate getting our bags soon. A nice way to end our wonderful vacation I tell you! All in all, the experience with them was memorable.

Hmmm…so will I be flying with Delta again…..?! Let’s just say since that trip, even the thought of flying now makes me cringe!
